May 11–June 9
11–5pm
Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, May 11th from 2pm-4pm. Calgary-based artist, Aron Hill will be in attendance and giving a talk at 3pm.
Aron Hill’s distinctive contemporary vision and style—their own unique approach to minimalist painting has taken another inspired turn. Known for their use of bold colours and clean graphic form, Hill’s recent compositions have found fresh inspiration in exploring a narrative that echoes their personal story
Hill as an artist, an educator, and a writer added ‘parent’ to their biography when their family recently fostered a baby girl. It was a life-changing event that has become reflected in the work. Colour, and strong shapes are now enhanced by the addition of collage. Embroidery, sewing, and gluing representing themes of a domestic life, labour, care and community—even historical colonialism have been woven into this compelling visual narrative.
The exhibition title— A Mule with a Transparent Pack over on a Path & Other Works refers to Hill’s paintings that feature the symbolic image of a mule, a non-reproductive animal historically valued for its life of labour.
Open Daily 11am-5pm – Closed on Tuesdays’.
